Lure Of Jagger: Marsh Chapel Choir Embraces Rock ‘N’ Roll

Bach cantatas, organ music, Handel’s “Messiah,” Renaissance quartets.

That’s standard musical fare for Boston University’s Marsh Chapel Choir.

But not Wednesday night. Wednesday, and also on Friday, 24 choir members will be on stage with Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones at the TD Garden to sing the choral part of the Stones’ mega-hit “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” In each city it visits on its 50th anniversary tour, the band is teaming up with a local choir to perform the song.

The choir’s director, Scott Jarrett, got the invitation from the Stones just a few weeks ago — and when he broke the news to his singers, they initially doubted that he was serious.

WBUR’s All Things Considered host Sacha Pfeiffer caught up with the choir singers just before they headed into the Garden for rehearsal:
